Hey, remember this guy?
You probably don’t. He wasn’t exactly a prominent person in my life or anything, he just happened to step into the frame of a photo I was taking with his little boy in that little red wagon. No big deal. Just added some color and emotion to the photo, and I liked it. They continued to walk right past Urban Outfitters, down the street, and out of my life. This all happened about 5 or 6 months ago.
And then I was on Church Street again recently, my first time back actually since since seeing that man. And where am I sitting and who do I see? I must have been only 50 feet from where I took that original photo, and along comes our friend, pulling along that same red wagon, this time escorting now two children – the same little boy plus a little blond girl – walking past Urban Outfitters, going the opposite direction down the street. Maybe that’s where they went five months ago… to the other end of Church to pick up the little girl, just so they could eventually make their return past me again. What an epic journey that must have been, if it took 5 months to get from one end to the other and back…
Well. Okay, that’s probably not what happened. But it was kind of fun seeing them again, same place, same wagon, same facial expressions even (I kid you not! I remember finding this fact quite notable, at the time). And this is why I love Burlington. It’s got a nice, fun, city atmosphere, it’s got that great outdoorsy appeal, and it’s just the right size. Despite meeting new people every day, there’s always someone familiar in the crowd – even if it’s just the red wagon man.
